Get Well Faster By The Use Of Sporting Foot Support Braces

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ) - No Comments

If you’re a sports person, you would have experienced at least one case of an ankle sprain in your sporting life. Ankles muscles are one of the hardest muscles to develop strength with hence they’re the most susceptible to twists and injuries.

Stronger ankles simply means that you will be a lot less likely to encounter injuries down the road, and even if you do the damage will be less severe. This would result in faster recovery times also.

For a lot of basketball players, ankle injury is a very common ailment indeed. Basketball requires many quick body directional changes as well as jumping and landing. This puts an enormous amount of pressure on the knees and ankles and as a result, most professional players who have been playing for a while have ended up with ankle reconstruction surgery.

Studies have shown that using ankle supports such as tape, can drastically reduce the occurrences of ankle sprains. However, it’s not as simple as just getting some tape and mummifying your foot, there is a proper way to wrap your ankles in tape and if you are interested you should do some research or buy a book on how to bandage your foot the correct way.

The down sides to using ankle tapes is that the tape is not cheap and needs to be replaced ever so often. They need to be washed and dried after every use and this causes the tape to lose its effectiveness after a while as it tends to get stretched. There are alternative solutions to this though as we shall soon see.

Enter the age of the ankle brace. There are many professional grade braces available in the market that will prevent ankle sprains and that are very comfortable to wear. They can be slipped on in seconds and will never loosen up during a sporting match.

The ankle braces such as the ASO ankle brace provides tons of additional support for your ankle without restricting your natural range of movement. The feedback from many people who have used it is that it gives them additional confidence and that their ankles feel a lot stronger with the brace on.

Foot supports such as the Aircast ankle braces are important but don’t forget that you will need to also do ankle strengthening exercises such as heel lifts and rope skipping (just to name a few). Don’t only rely on the foot supports alone for your injury prevention. This is especially true if you’re serious about your sport because once you have pulled a ligament, your ankle will never be the same again.

If you want further details with reference to the Aircast a60 ankle brace, we have done all the research for you.

Why Orthodontic Supports Are Vital If You Are Keen On High Impact Sports

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ) - No Comments

What is an ankle brace exactly? A brace is also known as an “orthodontic” support. Braces are generally used to prevent injury as well as speed up the healing process and rehabilitation of ankle-based injuries. They are a lot more effective in injury prevention than using tape as tape can stretch and wear out over multiple uses.

You will find these type of ankle braces available in any good health and sporting stores for a reasonable price. There are quite a few different styles available, each designed for specific purpose.

These ankle braces are not the same as those you might see people wear when they are recuperating from a broken ankle (the big and bulky ankle casts are such an example). A sports ankle brace is basically designed to be worn over your foot and within your shoe and a good quality one will not only feel comfortable but give you added support and strength to your mid and lower foot, as well as your heel.

Braces such as the ASO lace up ankle brace are the best in the preventative injury market and are a relatively inexpensive solution to people who often suffer from sprains because of weak joints. Professionals in the athletics and sporting fields these days are utilizing these ankle braces, and so are people who require additional support in day to day activities.

So which kind of support braces should you be getting? Are there certain things you should look out for? Well let’s take a look.

First of all, you have to address your requirements. Do you currently have weak ankles or are currently in rehabilitation from a recent sprain? If so, you should first consult a medical expert as to which brace you should get or if you even need one at all.

The next factor to think about is whether you’ll be requiring a brace as a preventative measure or vigorous sporting activities. If you’re only going to be doing some brisk walking or jogging, chances are you might only need a light weight brace offering minimal support rather than the sporting braces that offer a host of other features such as shock absorption.

Comfort should be the next most important thing, as you won’t want to be throwing the money away on something that feels awkward to wear. Go for a fitting as most stores will have a pair of demo ones available for you to put on. Remember to put your shoe on as well to make sure the sizing is correct.

It will take some getting used to when you first put on the ankle brace, and it might feel a bit unnatural to you. Give it some time. Once you get used to it, you will wonder why you never wore a brace before. Most users report that the brace offers them a huge amount of confidence as well as strength in their ankles.

The Top 5 Quarterbacks of the Last 10 Years

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , ) - No Comments

I can’t believe we’re almost done with yet another decade. In just several weeks, the end of the 00s will be behind us, and I’d like to take the time to look back at the decade that was, showcasing the best five NFL quarterbacks to have played football during these ten years.

These rankings will have more to do with the decade on a whole than they will with who’s the best at the moment. Based on that, there’s ample opportunity for the ordering of this list to change once each career is done.

These are all a matter of opinion, and yours might be different from mine. If you feel that I’ve gotten this order wrong, I’d love to hear your reasoning.

Coming in at number five on my list is Kurt Warner, the veteran quarterback who is still going strong to this day. As the current leader of the Arizona Cardinals, he added a second Super Bowl appearance to his resume last season. Warner shows no signs of slowing down at this point.

At number four, we have Brett Favre. While he may be a better career quarterback than another man or two on this list, this is simply about what he’s done during the decade. Favre lacks the Super Bowl appearance that others do here, though that could change by season’s end.

With 5 conference championship appearances on his resume, Donovan McNabb has done his share to earn a spot on this list. The Eagles have been perennially strong during this decade, thanks to a great defense and a top notch quarterback.

Tom Brady. With his three Super Bowl rings, a 212-90 career record, and a 93.4 career QB rating, all of which took place during the course of the decade, Brady has been phenomenal.

Lastly, Peyton Manning is already being spoken of as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game of football, and some are beginning to believe that he may in fact be the best. He led the Colts to a Super Bowl, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him win another one.

This author would be thrilled if you read his Rocket Spanish review.

Tennessee Titans Keep Falling

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ) - No Comments

Who would have expected the Tennessee Titans to open up the season with an 0-2 record? After a successful 2008 season, it’s shocking.

An amazing defensive unit, two powerful running backs in Chris Johnson and LenDale White, and a team led by the wise ways of accomplished head coach Jeff Fisher.

Many thought this was a Super Bowl team last season. I think I thought so myself. They made a few changes during the off-season that seemed positive.

The running game of the Titans is more dangerous, as Chris Johnson and LenDale White are a formidable running duo. The Titans’ defense has been good at stopping the run but not much else. The Titans are among the worst in the NFL in points per game allowed and passing yards per game allowed.

They don’t seem to be doing anything different then last year – which might be the problem this year.

So they were 0-1, but they were expected to lose that game, right? Surely, they’d bounce back to 1-1 after hosting the Texans at home.

It is hard to believe that a team coached by Jeff Fisher will continue to play this way for an entire NFL season.

The Titans now have an 0-2 record to begin the 2009 NFL season and sit at the bottom of their division. Things aren’t looking so good in Nashville now.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Big Time Struggles

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ) - No Comments

The Tampa Buccaneers are one of the many teams in the NFL trying to start from the ground up and rebuild their franchise. After the Super Bowl win in 02′ the Buccaneers haven’t had much success.

The Bucs rank among the worst in defense and offense and the future looks bleak. The Bucs had potentially a few Hall of Fame players on their team 7 years ago, now they are just looking to avoid a 3 win season.

With the loss of Joey Galloway, the offense looked as if it was in a position to suffer, but some nice additions in the offense department (Byron Leftwich at quarterback, Derrick Ward at running back from the Giants, and Kellen Winslow at tight end from the Browns) put the Bucs in a position to build on their offensive struggles from the 2008 season.

The defense didn’t change much. They’re one of the worst units in the league and they should have spent a bit more on balancing out the squad, not just improving the offense.

RB Cadillac Williams was a rising star in the NFL a few seasons ago. In 05′ Williams ran for over 1,100 yards in– games but injuries have put his progression as a RB on hold. 07′ – 08′ Williams only played in 10 games, scored 7 touchdowns and rushed for 441 yards.

The main WR on the Bucs is Kellen Winslow – who in his best year in 07′ caught for over 1,000 yards with 5 touchdowns for the Cleveland Browns.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were dealt a somewhat difficult opponent in week 2, traveling to Buffalo to face the Bills. The Bills had nearly beaten the New England Patriots in week 1, and looked to be much improved in 2009, thanks to a few key additions at both offense and defense (most notably Terrell Owens). The Bills won this game 33-20, nearly the same score as the Bucs’ week one loss.

The Bucs defense is one of the worst in the league – if not THE worst – the Bucs have given up more the 30 points more times then many teams give up the entire season. It will be a long season for the Bucs in 09′.

The New Orleans Saints Stay On Top of the NFC

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ) - No Comments

The New Orleans Saints started out the season with all guns blazing. They have the potential to have the greatest offense the league has seen in the last 30 years which includes the 2007 New England Patriots team that set many NFL scoring records.

QB Drew Brees is playing the best he has ever played and will be a favorite for MVP once the season is over. The 09′ season should be a good one for the Saints franchise overall, many expect the Saints to play late in January.

The Saints have weapons all round the field from RB Reggie Bush, WR Marques Colston, WR Jeremy Shockey, WR Devery Henderson, and RB Mike Bell. With such a potent offense the Saints can outscore anyone in the league -which means they are never out of the game no matter what the score is.

The offense ranks in the top 10 in every major statistical category and should continue to do so all season long. The Saints defense isn’t bad either; they are holding opponents to around 20 point per game — averaging much more then that on offense.

To begin the 2009 season, the Saints were given a very easy opponent in the Detroit Lions. As expected, they went on to win this game rather easily.

The defense is what the Saints need to keep opponents to a relatively low score – we know the Saints can score in bunches and quickly. But defense wins championships!

New Orleans has struggled financially the last few years and a good Saints football team is what the New Orleans community needs. Sports have been a great way to help bring communities together during tough times.

The Saints had a disappointing loss to the Bears in the 06′ NFC Championship game in freezing weather. Let’s hope for the Saints sake they receive home field advantage all through out.

Panic for Pittsburgh Steelers Fans

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ) - No Comments

In Super Bowl XLIII, the Pittsburgh Steelers became the first team in the Super Bowl era to win 6 championships, quite a remarkable feat. In 2009, the Steelers are looking to add to the franchise’s trophy case with a 7th Lombardi Trophy, but this might prove more difficult then ever for a repeat championship.

The Steelers are not showing their championship form when they overcame the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII – in one of the greatest endings for a Super Bowl, ever. Teams that typically win or just make the Super Bowl the previous year, they often experience a letdown. Football is the hardest team sport to repeat as champion in.

For this reason, many football fans pegged the Pittsburgh Steelers as the team to beat in 2009, making them the odds-on favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

During a nice week 1 victory at home, the Steelers edged by the Tennessee Titans, one of the AFC’s best in 2008. This was a defensive game, and in typical Steelers fashion, the team essentially out-defended the Titans, starting off the season on a great note with a 1-0 start.

During this game, veteran and Pro Bowl defender Troy Polamalu went down with an injury that will leave him sidelined for an estimated 3-6 weeks. This is a blow to the Steelers, and perhaps more of a blow than anyone was anticipating.

The team lost its week 2 game to a Bears team that looked like a mess in week 1 at Green Bay. Not only did the Steelers lose this game, but the defense didn’t record a single sack, interception, or fumble recovery. I don’t know the last time this has happened, but I’m sure it’s been a long time.

Does the absence of Troy Polamalu hurt the team this much? We’ll have to wait and see. Anytime a pro bowl player is missing, it’s usually a major blow.

If the Steelers offense can maintain some consistency – letting the defense make plays and create turnovers, the Steelers will be back in the driver’s seat in the AFC North.

Mark Sanchez Carries the NY Jets to a Huge Victory

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , , , , , , , ) - No Comments

Wow, what a turnaround it’s been in New York! Not only does the team have a new coach, a new rookie QB, some new role players, and more, but the entire team looks completely revitalized in a way like I’ve never seen it before.

As a fan of the team, I have to say that I’m absolutely thrilled. I think this team finally has potential after many years of hoping.

Entering week 2, the Patriots were a heavy favorite vs. New York and were expected to beat the Jets, as they ordinarily do in New York. Tom Brady had beaten the Bills the week before, and with an effective drive in the final two minutes of the game, brought the Patriots to victory.

If rookie Sanchez can limit his interceptions, manage the game, and keep his completion percentage around 60%, there is no reason the Jets can’t make a serious Super Bowl run. The AFC is very strong this year so it won’t be easy.Mark Sanchez is the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to throw over 200 yards in his first three starts.

The Pats came to New York on Sunday and the Jets looked like an entirely new team. Not only was Brady limited to his first game without a touchdown pass since 2005, but the Patriots lost their first regular season game with Brady as their quarterback since December 11, 2006!

The Jets defense looked as strong as I can ever remember it looking, and new coach Rex Ryan deserves a lot of credit for reshaping a defense that struggled through much of last season.

He’s bringing the Ravens mentality to New York and the Ravens have a championship because of the success in defense they’ve had.

The Jets can only beat who they play – the Jets have a fairly easy schedule despite playing the Patriots twice and the Colts. The Jets can easily compile a 11-5 or 12-4 record and make a strong playoff push.

The Houston Texans Bounce Back in Week Two

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , , ) - No Comments

The Houston Texans have come into the season with higher expectations than ever before. After closing out the 2008 season with an 8-8 record, they should have high expectations. It was a young team and should only improve.

This was a team that seemed to improve a bit each season during the past few years, and after an 8-8 finish, with a solid offensive core and an improving set of defenders, many claimed that the Houston Texans had a legitimate shot to win the division or make the playoffs.

On the other side of the ball there’s a ton of potential with some young studs in Mario Williams, DeMeco Ryans, Dunta Robinson and Amobi Okoye. If they can get it right, results in Houston will come.

Whatever the case may be, the Texans looked revitalized during their week two game against the Titans in Tennessee. Matt Schaub looked as good as he’s ever looked, with over 350 passing yards and a total of 4 TD passes.

With an opening week game at home against the Jets, the Texans disappointed their fan base with a loss. During the loss, the Texans showed an inability to score, and followers of the team were obviously let down. However, looking at it that way the Jets did the same thing to Tom Brady and the Patriots, perhaps the Jets defense is simply terrific this year.

Steve Slaton looked great on offense. He was able to take a ton of pressure off of Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson out wide. If Slaton can keep playing at this level, their offense will be a serious threat to any defensive unit.

If the Texans fall behind in games they will need to throw the ball more often, and teams will adjust and keep a tight lid on Andre Johnson.

It’s still too early to tell, but I do believe the Texans have a shot to make the playoff appearance all their fans have been hoping for!

Can the Miami Dolphins do it Without Chad Pennington?

posted in: fitness (Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ) - No Comments

The Miami Dolphins were the feel good story of the 2008 NFL season. The team finished with a 1-15 regular season record in 2007, and was written off as quite possibly the worst football team of the decade.

The 09′ season for the Miami Dolphins has been nothing like 08′. Statistically, Chad Pennington is the most accurate passer of all-time. While he might not have the “big arm”, he finds his receivers when they are open.

No one expected much out of Pennington, and neither did the Jets. Somehow, Pennington led the Dolphins to an AFC division championship in 2008, bringing the Dolphins into the playoffs to the surprise of many. This was a perfect way for Chad to rub it in the face of the Jets organization.

Things looked promising for 2009, until the Dolphins lost their first three games. Things looked even worse, when during their third game, the team lost Pennington for the season.

Young and inexperienced second year QB Chad Henne was called upon to lead the team, which didn’t really bode well for the Dolphins’ chances.

Somehow, the Dolphins have won their last two games, and Henne was brilliant in his week 5 match-up vs. the New York Jets. Chad Henne sure is lucky to have one of the best RB duos in the league with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. This absolutely helps take a ton of pressure off of him and open up some room.

After week 3, the Dolphins looked like a hopeless team with an 0-3 record, having been 3 games behind the first place Jets. Suddenly, the Dolphins are now 2-3 and the Jets are 3-2, with the Dolphins only one game behind the Jets now.

They performed a miraculous turn around in one year; hopefully that type of magic exists with the Dolphins again. If the Dolphins somehow manage a 8-8 season, that would be considered a successful season.
